The CHIDA Surgery Center is Open!

For six years, Dr. Wislyn dreamed of the day that CHIDA Hospital could offer surgery to its community in Cap-Haitien. Through years of hard work and prayer, we're excited to announce that the day has arrived. The new CHIDA Surgery Center features fully equipped operating rooms, dramatically increasing CHIDA's capacity to provide life-saving care. It's made possible by the generosity of our partners.

Power outages are common in Haiti, and CHIDA doctors had to finish surgeries by the flashlights on their cellphones when the power went out. The surgery center now runs on a state of the art solar power system, so patients no longer have to fear what happens if the lights go out mid-procedure.

No patient is ever turned away from CHIDA due to lack of finances. That's been one of CHIDA's core values from the start, and it shows: Dr. Wislyn and the CHIDA staff are an inspiration to the kids at IDADEE, many of whom say they want to grow up to be doctors.

CHIDA’s Impact So Far

• CHIDA opened in 2017 with just general consultation and an emergency room.

• Infant and maternal mortality in the community dropped 75% in CHIDA's first three years.

• Today CHIDA also offers pediatric, internal medicine, and OBGYN care, and trains nursing and medical students.

• A field team travels out to patients who can't make it to the hospital themselves.
