Late in the evening on Saturday, October 6, a deadly magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the northern region of Haiti, just 55 miles northwest of where we work in Cap-Haitien. The following day, a magnitude 5.2 aftershock shook the same region. Thankfully, the children and workers at all of our children’s homes and community development sites are unharmed. The majority of the damage occurred in the coastal town of Port-de-Paix, roughly 55 miles from where we work in  Cap-Haitien.

Dr. Wislyn, our medical director who leads the CHIDA hospital, has assembled a small team of doctors and nurses to assist in the ongoing medical relief efforts in Port-de-Paix. CHIDA was built on the idea of serving the community and we can’t think of a better way to do that than sending a team to aid in the disaster response. The team from CHIDA is taking much-needed medication and supplies and their high level of medical training will be a welcomed presence as crews and local hospitals continue to treat the hundreds of people who have been injured in the quake.

We’re asking 1,000 people to donate $10 so we can send $10,000 to Dr. Wislyn and his team. 100% of the money raised here goes towards the earthquake relief effort.
