The Pittsburgh Kids Foundation in Haiti:

The Pittsburgh Kids Foundation has been actively involved in the lives of Haitian orphans and the people of Haiti for over 15 years. God has put us in a very strategic place to help with the relief efforts. We have been in direct contact with trusted missionaries and nationals on the ground in Haiti that need our help more than ever!

The Haiti Project:

The following are the projects your donations will be used to fund:

Newly Contructed IDADEE Orphanage

Construction and Support of the New IDADEE Orphanage:

The PKF has been assisting a group of Haitian nationals over the last six years with their dream of constructing an orphanage by helping them raise the necessary funds. All of the members of the IDADEE orphan care program are Haitian orphans themselves and have a heart for reaching the poorest of the poor in Haiti with physical support and with the love of Jesus Christ. They are in charge of the direction and day-to-day operations of the new orphanage, while we provide them with the support they need to carry out their mission.

The first three floors of a building have been completed and the IDADEE team has hired a young married couple to act as house parents. In January of 2011, 2 year old Emmanuella was the first to come under the care of the mission. When she first arrived, she was suffering from malnutrition and was very shy. Her shyness did not last long though; because, shortly after her arrival, the first boy of the IDADEE orphanage moved on site. His name is Ephraim and he is always smiling and playing, which has helped Emmanuella to become very comfortable and happy there.

Emmanuella, Ephraim, and Ammonia

In March 2011, another little girl, named Ammonia, joined Emmanuella and Ephraim. The three of them are keeping Vilbrun and his wife Wangelie very busy. The plan is to slowly move kids into the house so that they can adjust to their new surroundings. By the end of 2011, there should be close to 25 kids off the streets and finally under quality care.

The PKF is committed to helping support this mission by raising awareness and funds for new projects as they take in more needy children. If you are interested in helping support the IDADEE orphanage, please click the link at the bottom of the page.

EBAC Orphanage Expansion:

Along with the IDADEE orphanage, the PKF has been working with the EBAC orphanage over the years. Kathy Gouker and Alice Wise are missionaries that have been working at EBAC, outside of Cap Haitien, for well over 30 years. In fact, all of the team members that are facilitating the IDADEE project were children that were raised by Kathy and Alice at EBAC.

The PKF has been supporting the EBAC Orphanage for over 15 years. But, we've found that with over 100 kids living there, it's badly overcrowded. In order to help Kathy and Alice expand their ministry at EBAC, the PKF has been given a generous gift to build an addition to their school. The addition will provide much needed dorm space for the girls of EBAC.

Since 1986, the PKF has taken thousands of middle school students to Surf City Summer camp on the sandy shores of western Michigan. There, kids have been able to hear the real story of Jesus Christ for the past 25 years! They have excitedly described Surf City as the best week of the summer and we now have the opportunity to give that same experience to kids in Haiti. There will be 110 Haitian children from EBAC Orphanage attending Surf City Haiti this summer!

Jean Claude and Monica Compere: Jean Claude grew up at the EBAC orphanage and is on the committee for the IDADEE project as an advisor. As an orphan himself, he has a strong desire to give back to other Haitian orphans. Together, with his wife, Monica, they have taken in 11 kids (David, Ester, Madeline, Samuel, Sephia, Wilnese, Asia, Isaiah, Braxton, Carter and Cassi). The youngest have tested positive for HIV but are doing well under their care.

Currently, they live in a rented house that is in poor condition in the city of Cap Haitien. Because of their urban location, they have no yard for the kids to run and play. They have purchased a beautiful piece of property in the country and are hoping to raise the funds to build a house big enough for 20 to 25 kids.

To help support the Compere family, the PKF is now set up to take tax-deductible donations on their behalf. If you would like to support this wonderful family, please click the link at the bottom of the page.

All three of these men have since been instrumental in helping to spread the word and fund our efforts to help the kids in Haiti.

In the fall of 2010, Max Talbot launched his own foundation, raising $90,000 at his first event, helping to complete the first phase of the IDADEE venture. In addition to starting his own foundation, Max has helped raise money to feed the kids of IDADEE by signing over 1000 t-shirts that kids from around the Pittsburgh area sold. For more information see the Pittsburgh Post Gazette article on their trip (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10238/1082794-61.stm) or check out the Max Talbot Foundation website maxtalbotfoundation.org

To help support the IDADEE orphanage the PKF would like to host short-term trips to the property. To make this happen, there needs to be a place for these groups to stay while they are in Haiti. With this in mind, the PKF has teamed up with the Joshua House Foundation to build a Retreat Center that can house Medical Teams and Short Term Missionary Teams.

The Joshua House is taking the lead on the construction and funding of the Retreat Center project. We are thankful for their partnership and encourage you to visit their website www.thejoshuahouse.org

In addition to this exciting project, we are also in the process of helping another local group from Pittsburgh construct a Medical Center. They are called "The City of Champions for Haiti." The hope is to break ground before the end of the year. As more details on this project become clear, we will be giving out more information.
